Kids & Youth Yoga Teacher
Hi there! My name is Ashley. I am a big kid at heart who has a love for adventures, yoga and building community. I believe that one of the most rewarding things in life is to watch kids learn and grow. I've always had a passion for working with kids, which led me to pursue studying social work in post-secondary. After receiving my social work diploma from Mount Royal University in 2014, I transferred to the University of Calgary where I received my bachelor of social work degree in 2016. Most of my experience come from working with at-risk children and youth. I've also volunteered with various organizations such as Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and the Sheldon Kennedy Child Advocacy Centre. In 2015, I landed an internship at the Office of the Child and Youth Advocate and worked in the Education and Engagement Division. Currently, I work at the Children's Hospital on the mental health unit. After practicing in the social work field for quite some time, I couldn't help but feel like I could do more with kids. I realized that the universe must have something more for me. One day, I decided to follow my heart and to push myself outside my comfort zone – which lead me to become a kids yoga teacher with Wymbin. My vision is to find a way to incorporate the elements of yoga with my social work practice. In a nutshell, yoga has taught me how to take a step back, appreciate life and enjoy the smaller things. Because of what yoga did for me, I believe that every kid can benefit from yoga and should have access to it. I am super excited to share this journey with you and I am looking forward to meeting you soon!
If you could by any superhero, who would you be?
I would definitely be wonder woman! If it was possible, I would possess all the super powers in the world… but if I had to pick my top 3 it would be time travel, flying and becoming invisible!
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Growing up I really wanted to be a fashion designer. You would find sketches of dresses all over my school agenda and desk – my teachers did not like that very much.
What is something that every kid should know?
Every kid should know that it is okay to be different! Embrace your unique qualities because that is what makes you, you!
What is your favourite Disney movie?
My favorite Disney movie has to be Shrek – who doesn’t love Donkey?!
